Introducing The Voice from Victorian Village
Greetings from The Village!
Victorian Village Inc. Community Development will begin its third year of operation in August of 2008. We celebrate this with our first newsletter, The Voice from Victorian Village. This e-newsletter will link you to our web site on a regular basis with updates on our projects, special events, and neighborhood news.
- Our biggest news is the airing of The View from Adams Avenue: 19th Century Memphis on WKNO Channel 10 on Tuesday, August 4th, at 7 p.m. This will take place during the WKNO fall fundraiser and will be featured on the cover of the WKNO magazine.
- All of us at Victorian Village Inc. send out a hearty Thank You to the volunteers and vendors that made our premiere such a fine event. Some of you suggested that we make this an annual outdoor gathering at the end of May. Read about the documentary premiere and see a host of pictures.
- Victorian Village Inc. CDC received a grant award in the amount of $10,000 from the Hyde Family Foundations. These funds are designated for VVI key operations. This is the first grant from Hyde Family Foundations awarded to VVI. “We are very pleased that the Hyde Family Foundations recognized our efforts toward the improvement of our neighborhood,” said Scott Blake.
- We have also secured partial funding for an Executive Director position. Former Chairman Scott Blake is now the part-time Executive Director. Hunter Rittenberry took over as Chairman. This allows us to concentrate on the development component of our mission.
- The New Morris Park Alliance is in the final process of selecting an architectural landscape firm to create a master plan for this city park. The Morris Park Alliance members represent the residential and business stakeholders in and around this neighborhood.
- We are also planning a fall event for Victorian Village. It is in the early planning stages, so stay tuned.
Please forward this newsletter to anyone who may be interested in our historic homes, community development, and special heritage events. If you would like to volunteer during VVI events, let us know.
Thank you for your interest in the Memphis neighborhood that represents a fabulous chapter in history and offers much promise for the future.
